My work is an exploration of the sculptural possibilities inherent in the old Victorian craft of cut-paper illustration. It reflects my fascination with the lyrical decorative traditions of Asia and the fine natural science specimens to be found in every self-respecting Edwardian gentlemans library.
I use archival-quality art papers to create my low relief illustrations. The images are built from layers of paper that have been embossed, cut, folded, and shaped.
My current work is figurative. In each piece I strive to balance abstraction and the dimensional possibilities of each form with capturing the essence of my subject, while simultaneously challenging the limitations of a one-dimensional medium - paper
