The Summer Festival of the Arts, located since 1999 on YSU's campus, is a celebration of the performing and visual arts. A juried art show featuring the works of local, regional and national artists, this event welcomes up to 80 artists yearly. A full schedule of music, dance and theatrical performances throughout the festival grounds complements the art and attracts a diverse crowd. Other activities designed to enhance the Summer Festival of the Arts include the Festival of Nations, where ethnic groups comprising the cultures of those residing in the Mahoning Valley display artifacts and sell food; an extensive children's hands-on art tent; a silent auction, numerous displays and activities sponsored by community arts and cultural groups and a jazz concert.
